Please see below some of the Events happening over the next months
2 – 4pm
There will be a variety of stalls at this popular event in the decorated hall with a little something for everyone. If you would like to have a sales table please contact Julie on 01730 825671. After you have shopped there will be teas served so you can sit down to relax.
The Harting Society
The society’s autumn 2019 programme of talks is shown below. All talks take place in the village hall at 7.30 pm and attendance is always free to members. Non-members are very welcome to come too, although you are invited to make a contribution of £3 towards our costs.
Membership of the society is, similarly, open to anyone for the modest annual individual subscription of £8 and the benefits include free attendance at the 3 spring and 3 autumn talks.
The society also acts as an amenity pressure group, sometimes taking a pro-active role on local planning and other matters, usually in co-operation with the parish council.
Please contact the society’s Hon Treasurer, Sarah Wilcox on 01730 825507 if you would like to join for the current year.
The March Talk
On Thursday 5 March at 7.30 pm Janet Pennington will talk on “Sussex Inns and their Architecture” An Illustrated history of our pubs.
This talk is about Sussex inns all over the county, looking at their architectural features and giving an understanding of what to look for in our towns, where many inns have now become private houses or, indeed, have been demolished. There are many clues to search for, and fortunately some inns are still trading and much of their past history can be discovered from the buildings that remain. Janet Pennington is an independent historian with a PhD in early-modern Sussex inn and tavern history which means, she admits, “that she has been in more pubs than most people”.
